Let's face it: speaking when you have a stammer can be intimidating. At Empowering Voices, everyone has been in the same situation.

We are 100% run by recovering stammerers, and we are a charity, so we are doing this because we want to make a difference in stammerers' lives rather than make a profit.

We aren't formally trained speech and language therapists but we live without fear of stammering. We have achieved this by using the Empowering Voices speech technique, which focuses on using a breathing technique, synchronisation of speech and desensitisation methods.

Empowering Voices Course Fees:

£250

What's a course like?

Courses are held over three days:

Day 1 – 09:00 – 17:00

Day 2 – 09:00 – 17:00

Day 3 – 09:00 – 15:30

Three days are enough time to learn the technique. The days are exhausting and sometimes emotional, but there will be plenty of time over dinner and during the evenings to practice your new-found voice.

For those who have had help with their stammer before, you may know the feeling of finishing the session, feeling very positive, having a few good speaking encounters and then bit by bit, the benefits of the session can start to wear off.

That’s why we provide many types of support, such as:

Free follow-up courses

Hopefully, you will want to return after your first course to practice using your Empowering Voices technique. Our follow-up courses are free. You may want to come for a day or all three days; the choice is yours!

Free audio and video call support

Free access to contact details for Empowering Voices volunteers who would love to chat and help you practice.

We use telephone, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp or Microsoft Teams to support you whenever and however you need it.

Support groups

We have online support groups via Microsoft Teams and in-person group meetings around the UK.

Personal development

The best way to learn something and hone your skills is to tell someone else about it, and support others.

When you return to a course, you can decide whether to work on your own speech or help someone else learn the Empowering Voices technique.

If you are ready to help someone else, let us know. Imagine how debilitating a stammer can be; also imagine the trepidation around speaking diminishing to a point where you can teach someone else to speak without fear. Now, that is a really rewarding position to be in!

We are a charity run by people just like you, recovering stammerers. As you become more confident with the Empowering Voices technique, the next step, if you wish, is to get involved in some capacity: by running a session at a course, ultimately running an entire course and maybe even join the management team.
